Vilma Reis
General Manager
Peter Brook, a Shakespearean theatre
director, had this comment to make about Africa:
"This large continent is only known through its
stereotypes. Brazil is not only samba , as Africa
isnīt only a place for Negroes, or the beating of
drums & AIDS. To-date there is little respect for
the high African culture. The Negro is seen either
as the violent primitive, or the happy simpleton."
(Estado do São Paulo aug/04 )
We at IAAF believe that the dramatist's concerns
coincide with the spirit of Ceafro - Afro-Oriental
Studies Center, of Universidade Federal da Bahiaīs
mission, which is to educate for racial & gender equality.
Ceafro does not believe that in order to solve the
question of racial discrimination in Brazil, all that
is necessary are new paradigmes of equality & identity
reconstruction. Technical capacitation of the minorities
is essencial, and as much as possible as a state of
the art of such technologies. Thatīs why Ceafro takes
advantage of IAAFīs readiness to support an
Introduction to Computer Network Technologies course.
